What men said they need in relationships.
Grace and peace,
Through The Sanctum — The Safe Place, along with the All Things House Global team who conducted the actual survey, we privately sent and conversed with several men about relationships. The purpose was simple: to give men a safe and transparent space to answer honestly — without judgment, pressure, or the need to give the "right" answer.
We asked what they are looking for in a woman and what they have struggled with most in relationships.
Different men. Different experiences. Different ways of saying it. But the answers kept coming back to the same things.
The Men's Results
9 out of 10 described essentially the same qualities they want in a woman:
- Can I disagree with you without being disrespected?
- Can I tell you what I am going through without it being used against me later?
- Can you be angry without manipulating, punishing, or intentionally hurting me?
- When I am struggling, can there be room for what I am experiencing too?
- Can we communicate through conflict and still respect each other's boundaries?
- Can I be vulnerable with you and still feel emotionally safe afterward?
But 10 out of 10 agreed on TWO non-negotiables:
1. I NEED TO BE UNDERSTOOD.
Not just heard. They want a woman willing to take the time and put in the work to understand who they are, how they process, and what they carry as men.
2. I NEED TO BE RESPECTED.
Especially when there is disagreement, anger, or conflict — not only when things are going well.
One other recurring issue: ACCOUNTABILITY.
Men repeatedly expressed frustration with apologies that sound like:
"I know I was wrong, BUT you…"
They were not asking women to accept all the blame. They were asking for the same thing healthy relationships should require from both people:
Can you own your part without making the other person responsible for your behavior?
This is not about attacking women, and it is not a suggestion that every man thinks alike. It is about listening to what men said when they were given a safe place to be transparent.
The Sanctum exists because sometimes understanding begins when people are given permission to say what they have been afraid to say — and others are willing to hear it without immediately defending themselves.
The Sanctum — The Safe Place · Transparency begins where defensiveness ends.
Women, respond to what the men said.
Each question below comes directly from what the men described above. Answer honestly — only combined percentages are ever shared.
